Frequently asked questions about accommodation options, Kiry and Kościelisko
Where is Kiry?
Kiry is a district of Kościelisko, located at the mouth of the Kościeliska Valley, divided into three parts: Kira Leśnicka (located west of the entrance to the valley), Niżnia Kira Miętusia (located east of the entrance to the valley) and Wyżnia Kira Miętusia (located within the Kościeliska Valley, on the premises of the Tatra National Park). Our house is located at Kiry 9 within Kira Leśnicka. The name “Kiry” is derived from the local word for turn.
What hiking trails are there in Kiry?
Since our house is located next to the entrance to the Kościeliska Valley, our guests don’t have to take their cars or public transport to go hiking. The Kościeliska Valley will take you to Hala Ornak (Ornak Pasture), Smreczyński Staw (Smreczynski Pond) or Przysłop Miętusi (Mietusi Pass) from where you can take the trail to Czerwone Wierchy (Red Peaks). We are also close to the Chochołowska and the Lejowa Valleys – our house is located in the very heart of the Western Tatras. The trails leading from Kiry connect to other hiking trails – you can see the entire network at mapa-turystyczna.pl
How far is Kościelisko from Zakopane?
It is just 6 kilometres from Kościelisko to Zakopane, so you can usually reach it in a quarter or so by car. Within Kościelisko, you can also find plenty of bus stops where you can board local buses. One of those stops is located at the entrance to the Kościeliska Valley, just 200 metres from our house.
How much does it cost to stay in Kościelisko?
Kościelisko offers a variety of accommodation options and is a great starting point for hiking in the Western Tatras. You can stay in hotels, family apartments or holiday bungalows. Kiry 9 is offering accommodation in rooms with private bathrooms. The price for a night in a room with bathroom starts with PLN 70 per person. Our guests have a common dining room and kitchen at their disposal.
Kościelisko – can I take my dog?
Not all hotels or holiday houses accept pets, neither do we. If you want to hike the Tatras with your dog, please remember that you can only take your pup to the Chochołowska Valley and the Droga pod Reglami (Alpine Path) – but outside the borders of the Tatra National Park, dogs can walk everywhere, according to the general rules.
Kościelisko – accommodation and things to do
One of the major attractions for tourists staying in Kościelisko is the proximity of the hiking trails in the Tatras. After a whole day in the mountains, you can also enjoy the nearby Chochołowskie Thermal Baths or have dinner in one of the highlander-themed taverns and restaurants. Also winter in Kościelisko can be fun – we have ski lifts and cross-country trails.
